Cornerstone Healthcare continues its growth in the South of England with the addition of The Burren Care Home in Bristol.

Now officially open, The Burren is a new, purpose-built care facility designed to support individuals with complex physical and neurological conditions in a safe, compassionate, and expertly-staffed environment.

The opening ceremony was performed by Julie Allen, mother of The Burren’s first resident; alongside Lesley Sturgeon, The Burren’s general manager; and Paul Hayes, chief executive of Cornerstone Healthcare Group.

Hayes said, “We are delighted to be opening The Burren Care Home.

“Every Cornerstone home we open allows us to support more people who deserve personalised, specialist care in a place they can call home.”

The home provides 80 ensuite bedrooms across two storeys and is divided into five suites, each with 16 bedrooms plus its own lounge, dining room, assisted bathroom, alongside tea points and kitchenettes for family members and visitors.

Residents also have easy access to outdoor spaces, including a rooftop terrace.

Services include specialist nursing care for residents with neuro-progressive conditions, such as Huntington’s disease and Parkinsonism-type disorders, complex dementias, mental health conditions, and neuro-rehabilitation.

Each suite is led by a senior nurse and supported by a team of nurses and care professionals, alongside an experienced clinical manager and general manager.

This enables Cornerstone to ensure a high clinician-to-resident ratio, a staffing model that guarantees even the most-complex care needs are met with consistency and compassion.

All rooms feature an en-suite wet room and spacious layouts, which residents are encouraged to personalise.

And thoughtfully-designed communal living and dining spaces invite social interaction, while quiet areas allow for privacy and reflection.

The home was also built to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ sustainability standards, with low-carbon technologies, renewable energy, and its own living wall on the outside of the building.

The Burren joins established homes in Hampshire and Surrey within the Cornerstone Group, marking a key expansion in its mission to serve individuals with complex health needs.
