Contractor, Deeley Group, has completed the delivery of a new 38-bed care home for adults living with complex needs.

Birch View in Radford, Coventry, will be operated by Exemplar Health Care and will provide nursing care for adults living with complex needs arising from brain injuries, dementia, mental health conditions, neuro-disabilities, and physical disabilities.

The development has been built on the site of the former derelict St Nicholas Church and was designed by Watson Batty Architects in keeping with the design of the former building, with the single storey entrance, canopy and materials used reflecting its character.

Birch View is the fifth development delivered by Deeley Group in partnership with Exemplar Health Care, with the Coventry-based contractor generating social value equivalent to 20 per cent of the construction cost, reinforcing its commitment to the local community.

The firm also achieved a full 45/45 score under the Considerate Constructors Schemes (CCS) during the development, reflecting the highest standards in site management and engagement with the community near Sherwood Jones Close.

Eleanor Deeley, joint managing director at Deeley Group, said: “This development marks another milestone in our long-term partnership with Exemplar Health Care as together we continue to deliver high-quality specialist care environments for adults with complex needs.

“From the planning stage through to construction and completion, we have worked collaboratively with the diocese and Coventry City Council to ensure we are creating a home that meets the needs of future residents, but also respects the heritage of the site.”

Following practical completion, Exemplar Health Care is now completing the fit-out of the home ahead of opening its doors in the spring.

It includes facilities on each floor to support nursing care, as well as dining rooms, quiet rooms and lounge areas, alongside a residential therapy room and an entrance hub with meeting areas for visiting family members. There is also a sensory garden.

Robert Giles, property and developments director at Exemplar Health Care, said: “This new home will provide a welcoming, supportive environment where adults living with complex needs can receive high-quality, person-centred care.

“Every aspect of Birch View has been thoughtfully designed to promote independence, dignity and wellbeing, from the specialist care facilities to the therapeutic and social spaces.

“We’re particularly pleased to be bringing this much-needed service to the Coventry community and to transform a previously unused site into a place that will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
