Active Care Group is launching a Complex Supported Living service, offering care to adults with complex needs, including learning disabilities or autism.

Some of the operator’s existing services are currently being transformed into suitable living environments for the individuals it will support and a number of new properties are also being developed.

The launch will take place initially at Woodland Court in Surrey and later this year and early next year, services across Hampshire and Sutton will be opening.

At Woodland Court, families, key stakeholder, and residents themselves will be involved in developing their own care plans and in choosing the way they live their lives.

The flats will be single-person properties that are neutrally decorated, encouraging the individuals living there to personalise the space and make it their home.

Additional adaptations will be catered to the needs of the individual once their requirements have been identified.

The team, consisting of a specialist positive behaviour support (PBS)-trained and experienced operations manager, a service manager, and support staff, will provide 24-hour care.

Recruitment of staff will be carefully considered and they will be able to mobilise between the services, ensuring that individuals are able to see familiar faces and build trust.

This pro-active and compassionate model not only enhances quality of life, but also significantly reduces the need for restrictive practices, ensuring care is always respectful, responsive, and rooted in the individual’s strengths and aspirations

The team will also take a trauma-informed approach, with residents receiving a minimum of 1:1 support 24-hours a day.

Active Care Group chief executive, Keith Browner, said: “Our Complex Supported Living service is an exciting step forward.

“We’re proud to be able to offer this specialist dedicated service for individuals with complex needs and look forward to sharing the progress and development of this service throughout 2025 and into 2026.

“Our commitment is to empower individuals with complex needs to live and thrive within their own environments, where they feel safe, valued, and supported.

“By fostering person-centred approaches and building tailored support systems, we enable greater autonomy and dignity.

“This pro-active and compassionate model not only enhances quality of life, but also significantly reduces the need for restrictive practices, ensuring care is always respectful, responsive, and rooted in the individual’s strengths and aspirations.”
